No Milan card error - but Windows says it is OK

Post by Phil »

I'm getting an open error from the Milan card, even though Windows reports it as correctly installed and working.

The AESTest program gives:
Checking Device Access:
Device Aeimhei-0 found in slot 9
xxxxx found - Not Aardvark flag
No working PCI card found

The problem is that the Milan card runs firmware on a local microprocessor.

The line about slot 9 shows that the card is electrically present and its PCI interface has been found by the OS.

The line about the Aardvark flag shows that the internal Firmware is not running!

The two most probable causes are:
1/ The "Disk" power connector is not plugged into the card.
2/ There is a problem with the Firmware, and the card needs complete re-installation.

The power connector is OK, how do I re-install the Firmware?

Either return the card as "faulty", or you could construct a "re-initialisation" cable using these http://www.aardvark.eu.com/Private/ProgrammingLead.pdf instructions.

To re-program the PCI card, you will need the lead plugged into the PCI card and COM1/2. If you have included a switch then, obviously, it has to be in reprogram mode.

A suitable S record file for reprogramming is: http://www.aardvark.eu.com/Private/4-1- ... an-A37.zip

The software that does a comms line reprogramming is installed from: http://www.aardvark.eu.com/Private/Flashsimple_v1_1.zip

Once you've installed it you need to set the FLASH / Settings menu up as:
DeviceName=H8S/2623F
InterfaceName=Direct Connection
PortName=as appropriate
BaudRate=38400
Mode = Boot

You then use the browse button to locate the .a37 image and then press the big FLASH program button.

It may appear to find errors on the read after write check - but that's a bug in FlashSimple!

Don't forget to return the switch after you've programmed the device.
